1. Run it by the team first.

  • Meaning: To share ideas for feedback and approval before acting.
  • Somali: Marka hore kooxda la wadaag (si ay fikrad uga dhiibtaan).
  • Example: “I think itโ€™s a great idea, but you should run it by Macalin Mohamud first.”

2. He calls the shots.

  • Meaning: To say that someone is in charge and has authority to make decisions.
  • Somali: Isaga ayaa go’aanka leh (isagaa masuul ah).
  • Example: “You should run your idea by Ahmed, because he calls the shots.”

3. The ballโ€™s in your court.

  • Meaning: To say that itโ€™s someone elseโ€™s responsibility to make a decision or take action.
  • Somali: Go’aanka adiga ayuu hadda kuu yaallaa.
  • Example: “We made you an offer. Now, the ballโ€™s in your court!”

4. They hammered out the agreement.

  • Meaning: To say that something is finalized after a lot of discussion.
  • Somali: Heshiiskii ayay soo afjareen (meel saareen).
  • Example: “After three hours of meeting, we finally hammered out the terms.”

5. Weโ€™ll take that into consideration.

  • Meaning: To say that youโ€™ll consider someone’s suggestions or feedback.
  • Somali: Tixgelin ayaan siin doonaa (Waan ka fiirsan doonaa).
  • Example: “Thanks for your suggestion to add live classes! Iโ€™ll take that into consideration.”
